The Mayor of Nessebar Nikolay Dimitrov and the Governor of the Burgas Region Maria Neikova opened the renovated Ethnographic Museum of Nessebar

The Mayor of Nessebar Municipality Nikolay Dimitrov opened the renovated Ethnographic Museum in Old Nessebar. The event was attended by Maria Neikova – governor of Burgas region and other guests.

“The Ethnographic museum is one of the symbols of our city. The building, which is open to visitors again today, is an example of a typical Black Sea house from the Renaissance. The restoration and maintenance of cultural monuments and their preservation and popularization are the main tasks in the policy of several generations of rulers of Nessebar. I thank the team that worked to implement this project. Recently, the Municipality of Nessebar successfully passed the first stage of approval for financing projects for the restoration of the churches “Christos Pantokrator”, “St. Michael and Gabriel” and “St. Todor”. With the renovation of these temples, we will close the cycle of restoration activities that we started years ago with the implementation of the “Spiritual Path” project. Last year, with our own funds, we restored the landmark mill on the isthmus of Nessebar,” said Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov.

The renovation of the interior spaces of the Ethnographic Museum was carried out under the Program “Cultural Entrepreneurship, Heritage and Cooperation” – project “Revitalized spaces in the world cultural value Old Town of Nessebar – Ethnographic Museum”. The granted financial assistance is in the amount of BGN 765,861.97.

As part of the project, the building was restored, including the interior elements and installations. Spaces have been opened allowing the development of additional services and cultural products.

The second floor is intended for the permanent ethnographic exposition, organized in thematic corners. The museum collection has been renovated with many new exhibits, also purchased with a project grant.

New exhibition lighting, exhibition furniture and props designed entirely for the current building were implemented, highly specialized acoustic and multimedia equipment was delivered, etc. The goal is to attract new audiences. By introducing interactive activities, greater visibility and two-way interaction between visitors and museum exhibits will be ensured.

A congratulatory letter on the occasion of the opening of the Ethnographic Museum was received by the Ministry of Culture.
